Friends Newsletter — May 2025
Life updates:
In December, I moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, to focus more seriously on some chronic health issues. I love Mexico City, but navigating healthcare in Spanish wasn’t ideal.I’m still running Focusmate and recently hired our 10th team member—our first growth hire—to help deepen our reach in the ADHD community, where Focusmate has had the clearest product-market fit. Almost 10 years into this journey, I’m still fired up about what’s next and grateful for it.
I’m also newly obsessed with pickleball and play as much as I can handle 🙂
Some interesting tidbits from my world:
#1: “Attention = no tension”
I love this phrase for framing attention as a physical experience of relaxation. When I’m listening to someone but already thinking about my response, I feel that tension in my neck, face, and body.
I now use moments of tension as a cue to pause and reconsider before speaking.
#2: Money mindset
In my younger years, a “wealth is bad” conditioning subtly steered me toward scarcity. Two new narratives helped shift that:
-
Money can facilitate ease, and not having enough can limit your ability to share your gifts. Poor = selfish?!
-
Wealth can be a tool for stewarding resources in service of others and your purpose.
These ideas helped me stop martyring around money and start welcoming abundance in life.
#3: Sustainable > Ideal
When planning this newsletter, my friend Blake Smith asked: What topics can I easily write about, and what frequency can I sustain?
I used to chase ideal goals, which often led to failure. Now, I focus on what I can sustain consistently, and it’s been much more fulfilling.
Thanks for reading, and here’s to a sustainable month!
